This stunning beach protrudes from the small green island Marathonisi. The caretta- caretta turtle has chosen this spot for the laying of her eggs. The beach plays an important role in this process as the ground temperatures determine the sex of the hatchlings. Warmer temperatures (above 29 degrees Celsius) will result in a greater proportion of female hatchlings, where cooler temperatures produce a larger number of male hatchlings (less than 29 degrees Celsius).
Visitors to the beach arrive on fishing boats and small vessels from Keri Lake beach where mini cruises to Laganas Bay are most often organized. The view of Zakynthos and of Laganas bay from Marathonisi is breathtaking. The deep blue of the sea is combined in perfect harmony with the lush green landscape as the golden sand in between adds a final touch to the setting.
