Short cruises
Visitors can visit the marine park of the loggerhead sea turtle caretta-caretta and, with a little luck, will see them swimming in the sea. Next, the cruise heads towards Marathonisi where two beaches ideal for swimming are found. Finally, small cruises depart daily to the renowned Keri caves from various ports of Zakynthos.
An alternative itinerary will take visitors to the famous Shipwreck, an attractive beach for swimming and sunbathing. Following stops include the Blue Caves and the Makrigialos at the north part of the island. The best time to visit the Blue Caves is in the morning when the sunrays create beautiful reflections on the waters and the cave walls.
Boats can also be hired for one-day trips to various locations and several have glass bottoms so visitors can observe the swimming turtles and the depths of the sea.
Tours with luxury coaches
Luxury coaches schedule trips around the island. The usual tour begins early in the morning and passes through Katastari village in Alykes, the small beach Xigia, the mountain village Volimes and eventually leads to Agios Nikolaos and the Blue Caves. The first stop is the Blue Caves and is an ideal opportunity for a short boat ride. Next on schedule are visits to the mountain villages where visitors can stroll around the traditional narrow streets and get to know the local products.
The main villages visitors tend to tour are the villages of Agios Leontas, Maries and Kampi, from where a magnificent sunset can be admired. Among the many monasteries is the Byzantine monastery in Anafonitria, which was the habitat of Agios Dionysios, and the monastery of Agios Giorgios ton Krimnon. Nearby, visitors can admire the magnificent view of Shipwreck beach. Upon return, the coach follows the route through Kiliomeno and Lithakia villages.
